The role of the group, chief information officer, is no more as Nokia look to reorganize its leadership position.

Ursula Soritsch-Renier was the former and last person to hold the position. Bhaskar Gorti is now responsible for the duties of the role of group chief information officer.

Bhaskar Gorti is also the president of the Finnish company’s Nokia Software unit and the group’s chief digital officer. Although the change took place at the beginning of the year, however, the company comments are only recent.

This comes at a time when the 22 billion euro company is making substantial investments into 5G technology.

The company could gain from the US a lack of trust in Chinese company Huawei.

Reason for Nokia Decision

Gorti confirmed the change while saying that adding the two roles is going to make it easier for the company to roll out the new cloud-native service to 100,000 of Nokia. This is the key to doing business that sells electronic products since the 1960s. He added that “There’s a direct correlation between [the success of] our internal digitization and customers seeing the benefit of it.”

Together with Ericsson, Nokia remains one of the major names in competition with Huawei for 5G technology.

The advantage for the 5G Giant in the US

Due to security concerns about the Chinese company, the US is considering alternative suppliers of 5G technology. The Attorney General of the US, William Barr, recently urged the US to increase its stake in both European companies.

This is so they can counter the expansion efforts of Huawei, although Vice president quickly disavowed the idea.

Nokia, with the current CEO Rajeev Suri, is fresh out of a pretty bad year.

Last year the company made heavy investments to compete with Huawei and other rivals. However, the shares of the company saw a considerable fall in October 20019.

Recently Nokia has been successful in winning some major deals in creating 5G networks, up to 66 in number.

So far, 19 are already complete. Nokia has many companies in Europe, Japan, and the US and other countries as its customers. However, it remains unable to get a high enough price boost from its 5G contracts.

The company is also about to go through major cuts in the cost of running the firm.

Gorti, who works at the company’s branch in California, has become successful in boosting the growth of the company’s software business.

The software business is responsible for up to 12% of the net sales of the company. This increase in profits comes after a shuffling of the company’s leadership in November last year. They also removed the position of Chief operating officer in November.
