Al-Ittihad manager Nuno Espirito Santo has dismissed media reports claiming a falling out with Karim Benzema as “nonsense.” This comes after Benzema scored his first goal in the Saudi Pro League during a 4-0 victory over Al-Riyadh. Saudi media had suggested that the Ballon d’Or winner was unhappy with the way the Portuguese coach had treated him. There were also rumors that Nuno felt Benzema did not fit his style of play. As a result, Nuno faced criticism from fans and the Saudi media, with calls for his dismissal, despite leading Al-Ittihad to their first league title since 2009 last season. However, Nuno refuted these claims, stating, “This is nonsense,” and emphasizing his good relationship with all the players, including Benzema. He expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance and Benzema’s contribution, stating that the striker is happy and enjoys playing for Al-Ittihad. Furthermore, Benzema himself dispelled rumors of a row with teammate Abderrazak Hamdallah, the league’s top scorer last season, by handing him the ball for a penalty kick. Al-Ittihad, who made notable signings such as N’Golo Kante and Fabinho this summer, currently sit at the top of the league after winning their first three games.
