Alejandro Kirk hits two HRs as Blue Jays defeat Angels

On July 30, the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Los Angeles Angels 6-1, with Alejandro Kirk hitting two home runs and Santiago Espinal adding a two-run shot. This victory marked the Blue Jays’ second win in the three-game series and their fourth win out of five games against the Angels this season.

In the game, Toronto’s Alek Manoah, a right-hander, pitched 4 1/3 innings, striking out six and allowing one run, four hits, and three walks. However, he had to leave the game after hitting Taylor Ward in the face with a pitch with the bases loaded in the fifth inning. Ward was visibly injured and had to be taken off the field on a cart.

On the Angels’ side, left-hander Reid Detmers pitched 4 2/3 innings, giving up two runs, three hits, and two walks. He struck out five batters.

In the fifth inning, Luis Rengifo doubled for the Angels, followed by intentional walks to Shohei Ohtani and Mickey Moniak, loading the bases. Manoah’s pitch hit Ward in the face, resulting in a run for the Angels. Ward had to leave the game due to his injury, and Andrew Velazquez replaced him as a pinch runner. Genesis Cabrera then replaced Manoah and retired the next two batters.

In the bottom of the fifth, Kirk led off with a single and later scored on Espinal’s second home run of the season, extending the Blue Jays’ lead.

The Angels had a chance to rally in the sixth inning, loading the bases with two outs. However, Trevor Richards struck out Moniak, ending the threat.

In the seventh inning, Kirk hit another home run, this time against Aaron Loup, increasing the Blue Jays’ lead to 4-1. Loup also allowed another run on Kevin Kiermaier’s infield single and Whit Merrifield’s double.

Kirk continued his impressive performance in the eighth inning, hitting his sixth home run of the season after Danny Jansen’s single. This extended the Blue Jays’ lead even further.

In the ninth inning, Yimi Garcia pitched around a single to secure the win for the Blue Jays.

Meanwhile, Angels manager Phil Nevin served a one-game suspension for his actions in protesting a called third strike in the previous game.

Before the game, the Blue Jays placed closer Jordan Romano on the injured list due to lower back inflammation and called up Nate Pearson from Triple-A Buffalo. Pearson pitched a perfect eighth inning in the game.

In conclusion, the Toronto Blue Jays dominated the Los Angeles Angels with a 6-1 victory, thanks to Alejandro Kirk’s impressive performance. The Blue Jays have been successful against the Angels this season, winning four out of five games.
