AlphaTauri say Ricciardo’s return still “a while away”

Daniel Ricciardo’s return to Formula One may be delayed as he recovers from a broken hand, according to his AlphaTauri team. The Australian driver has already missed four races, including the Japanese Grand Prix, but there is speculation that he could return in Qatar next month. However, AlphaTauri’s chief race engineer, Jonathan Eddolls, emphasized that there is no rush to bring Ricciardo back, as New Zealander Liam Lawson is currently serving as a stand-in. Eddolls stated that Ricciardo is still in the recovery phase and it will be some time before he is ready to return. The team wants to ensure that he fully heals before making a comeback to avoid any potential issues. Eddolls also mentioned that there are five races after Qatar, all in the Americas, before the final round in Abu Dhabi. The decision on Ricciardo’s return will ultimately be made by him, as he knows best about his pain and recovery progress. The focus is on his full recovery so that when he does come back, his injury is not a topic of concern. The team plans to conduct simulator work as part of Ricciardo’s fitness test. Overall, the priority is for Ricciardo to make a complete recovery before returning to the starting grid.
