Amazon is expanding its bookstores to New York City just across the Empire State Building, one of the tourist hotspots to visit away from New York City’s other bookstores known to be landmarks. The announcement of this bookstore in New York has made the list on their website as the third coming soon bookstore.
With plans to open in the summer, Amazon has already been successful in opening its first amazon bookstore in Seattle in November 2015 near the high-end of University Village. Followed by their second bookstore in San Diego 2016 and their third in Portland.
Although there have not been enough details concerning the plans of Amazon, they are known to experiment with ideas even if they do not work out for the benefits of learning in the future.
Amazon’s bookstore will be more of a showcase model. According to Amazon CFO, Brian Olsavsky, the bookstore is going to be more than a place where they sell books but a place to platform their hardware devices and raise their sales. It will be a place where the customers will be able to see and interact with Amazon’s devices such as Echo, Kindle, Fire TV and Fire tablet.
Amazon wants to interest people in their devices and having a physical presence across the country will add to the benefits of their devices but also as college pick up spots.
Amazon has been a contributor to the decline of small bookstores in New York as well as other parts of the country. However, according to Idea Logical’s Shatzkin, Amazon does not pose any threat to the other bookstores since they are not well stocked. They do have good resources and a large self-publishing effort which gives them more access to unique titles and new writers that publish with them but does not have enough stock.
Amazon is hoping to open two more bookstores this year including the one in New York City.
