Amazon has combined the leadership of Amazon Fresh and Amazon Restaurants to one executive

Recode has recently learned that one of Amazon’s vice presidents, Stephanie Landry who launched and runs the Prime Now delivery service has now taken oversight of two other services.

Landry has now become the business leader for Amazon Fresh, the company’s food delivery service as well as Amazon Restaurants, the company’s restaurant delivery service.

Landry sat down with Recode to discuss the recent changes around these delivery services. “If you look around this facility, you’re going to see a lot of everyday items — food and consumables, Amazon Fresh sells the same types of products but a much greater variety. And so both of them have a lot of synergies and it makes sense to think about them jointly.”

With Landry now being in charge of the two businesses, Landry hinted to Recode that there is a possibility that the two might be combined into one place.

“If you think about the physical world, there are lots of different ways that consumers shop for products, and so I actually think that we’re going to have lots of different ways to get food to customers, but behind the scenes it makes sense to develop as many efficiencies as possible.”

Lanry joined the Amazon team in 2004 and was a founding member of the Amazon Fresh service which launched in 2007. The services cost $14.99 a month on top of the Prime annual fee of $99. Amazon Fresh offers a huge selection of perishable items and packaged foods within a day of ordering.

Since overseeing the launch for three years now, Landry has led the expansion of the grocery service to more than 30 cities in the United States and more than 50 markets around the globe. Prime Now gives the option of Prime members to order through Amazon and get orders delivered from local retailers in a matter of hours.

Ian Freed was the VP of Amazon Restaurants who left earlier this year. It is not clear what Ben Hartman, the Amazon VP who previously oversaw Amazon Restaurants is up to these days.
