North Korea, which is still devoid of a single confirmed case of coronavirus, is fearful of the consequences if the virus finds a way into the country already burdened by international sanctions and a bleak healthcare system. North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong Un, in a recent Worker’s party conference, has cautioned the top officials to implement strict discipline and stringent measures to ensure coronavirus prohibition in the country.

In the Worker’s Party of Korea, Kim held a meeting and declared the Coronavirus epidemic prevention in North Korea as a ‘crucial state affair for the defense of the people’. KCNA (Korean Central News Agency) stated that Kim has asserted “serious consequences” if the infectious disease, which has spread rapidly across 50 plus countries, enters North Korea. In the wake of marking the coronavirus prevention with zero tolerance, two senior party officials were sacked who have been found to misuse the funds allotted for anti-epidemic measures. Leader Kim ordered all channels and spaces, which may give way to coronavirus to be sealed off with immediate effect.
North Korea Puts Best Foot Forward to Block Coronavirus
North Korea is pulling out all stops to ensure the prevention of coronavirus in their territory. All international flights and trains to and from the country remain suspended. Schools have been closed, and the new term stands postponed. Hundreds of foreigners who were mainly diplomats in the country have been put in quarantine facilities.
The authorities are trying extra hard as the state media is affirming ‘absolute obedience’ from the general public. High profiled dignitaries are locked down to prevent them from any chances of infection. Streets are filled with echoes of loudspeakers, which are imparting hygiene instructions for people to follow regularly.
UN offers Help to North Korea
As per reports from Germany’s Ambassador to the UN, there may be a lifting of some sanctions on North Korea, and the UN has also called upon North Korea to open its borders and import the equipment required to help the nation in case of an outbreak.
South Korea Report Record High Cases, while China Numbers Stabilize
North Korea’s fears would not be wrong given its neighbor South Korea’s epidemic crisis. South Korea, which has become the second-largest cluster of coronavirus infections after mainland China, has reported more than 2,300 cases, with Friday compounding a total of 594 cases in a single day. The country has reported 17 deaths from the deadly virus. China meanwhile is seeing a stabilizing environment as the number of cases has begun to decline with passing days. However, the total numbers of coronavirus cases in the mainland are 84,000, with 2,800 people dead, mostly in the Hubei Province, which is the epicenter of the outbreak.
