Easter procession has gone ahead in southern Czech Republic. Despite strict coronavirus restrictions, they have revived an old Easter tradition.
A group of people dressed in black suits and wearing white masks marched through the city of Ceske Budejovice, banging drums and pushing small noise-making carts. All participants wear masks and abide by social distancing rules.
The Czech government eased the lockdown, enabling people to attend Easter worship services after 9 p.m., when the curfew begins.
“I’m really grateful for it,” said Jan Vodicka, one participant. “Last year’s edition was canceled. This year, it brings people together and gives them hope. That’s what Easter is all about.”

While in some countries, wooden rattles are used to create the racket, people in Ceske Budejovice returned to the older tradition of using small wooden carts for the Easter rattling or clattering.
