If you’ve ever been to a bar like Buffalo Wild Wings, you’ve most likely seen the football games on the big screen. If you’re also a gaming fan, there is a chance you wished there was something a little more…digital up there. Well, we’ve got some good news for you!

Arby’s and Buffalo Wild Wings have announced that they are taking the next step in their involvement in electronic video gaming competitions. In an attempt to attract customers, they have announced they are going to show eSports competitions on their big screens. The CEO of Buffalo Wild Wings, Sally Smith, had the following to say about the change:

“We are continuing to differentiate our brand for the long-term by embracing two emerging sports: soccer and eSports. We’re seizing the opportunity of eSports, or competitive video gaming, as it attracts a young, digitally connected and engaged fan.”

They will begin showing eSports on Friday nights and reportedly that has drawn more than 60 eSports fans to a eSport-friendly location in Sherman Oaks, California.

Both Arby’s and Buffalo Wild Wings became initial sponsors of Turner’s ELEAGUE in May, which allowed both restaurants to air ads on TBS and through Twitch when ELEAGUE is being streamed. Arby’s serves as the Official Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) partner, and Buffalo Wild Wings is the Official Casual Dining partner. Arby’s CMO and brand president, Rob Lynch, said the following about the changes:

“”We’ve learned through connecting with our guests in social media that gaming resonates with them. We’re looking to foster a deeper connection in the eSports community by creating content for ELEAGUE geared specifically for the diehard fans tuning in.”

Whether the two chains will have more success with video games streamed in their locales remains to be seen. Perhaps if this ends up being successful for them, other chains will do the same and help eSports become even more mainstream.
