Canada’s Marco Arop surprised his competitors by changing his tactics and ultimately won the gold medal in the Men’s 800m at the World Championships in Budapest. Normally a front runner, Arop strategically stayed at the back of the pack during the first lap. Then, at the bell, he swiftly moved to the front and pulled away from the rest of the field. Arop, who won bronze last year, maintained his speed and comfortably finished in 1:44.24. Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi took silver with a time of 1:44.53, while Britain’s Ben Pattison secured a surprise bronze in 1:44.83, holding off Spain’s Adrian Ben. Arop expressed his joy at winning the gold medal, stating that it meant everything to him. He also discussed his change in tactics, emphasizing his desire to be known as a versatile runner. Pattison’s performance was also commendable, as he demonstrated determination and acceleration to secure his place on the podium. He expressed his ambition to win and his satisfaction with achieving a top-three finish. Pattison also shared a heartwarming interaction with fellow British athlete Josh Kerr, who congratulated him before the race. Overall, Arop and Pattison’s achievements were celebrated, and they expressed their gratitude for the experience.
