Asia Bibi smiles as humanity gains over religion

Before moving forward towards the critical news of the era, which has caused upraises throughout the world, it’s important to understand one particular term, blasphemy. As it goes, it is more of religious convictions of accusing someone as criminal found guilty on the grounds of insulting a specific religion. Pakistan’s laws of blasphemy sentence someone to life imprisonment or death if found guilty of insulting or violating Islamic protocols. Asia Bibi is one of the Pakistani Christians who, after a fight with a group of women in June 2009, has been serving almost 19 years in Pakistan’s prison.

Asia Bibi’s days in prison

Residing currently in Canada, Bibiispoke to the source of the BBC news and claimed that she knew freedom awaits her.  She is currently promoting her book “Enfin Libre” written alongside journalist Anne-Isabelle Tollet. The book is a narrative of BiBi’s life in jail and how she was brutally treated by the guards. BiBi claims that the guards would tie her neck with chain till she chokes and pull her up like a dog. Yet Pakistan’s administrations have dismissed the allegations. Asia Noreen alias Asia Bibi was the first woman to be sentenced to death under Pakistan’s blasphemy laws. Yet in 2018, the Supreme Court dismissed the death sentence breaking outcries from certain religious leaders.

Asia Bibi case and its history

While giving her interview to the BBC sources, BIbi recalls the day when she was arrested under blasphemy laws. She was accused by a group of hostile women of insulting Prophet Mohammed. She claims that her husband went to work, and the kids were at school. As she was engaged in picking up fruits in an orchard beside her house, a violating mob came running, dragged her, and also made fun of her. During her jail term, she got to know from her husband that even the pope is praying for her. During her days in prison, her inmates would abuse her, claiming the authorities to hang her. The inmates even asked her to change her faith, and she would be freed. Bibi refused to change her faith and stated that she would live her sentence along with her faith. Her husband informed her that the whole world was praying for her, and that was the time she knew freedom awaits her.

Death of Shahbaz and Salman

The interview lasted long, and Bibi claims that she would definitely be going back to her country Pakistan. She longs to visit her country again. She also proclaims that injustice should be done to nobody, especially in the cases of blasphemy. Both parties should be heard equally, and then the investigation should be carried forward. During her days in jail, Bibi also overheard the death of Shahbaz Bhatti and Salman Taseer. These were the two most prolonged politicians who tried to help Bibi. The interview concluded with Bibi stating that she cried a lot for the two messiahs. Even today, her heart is filled with grief. Lastly, the lady concluded that she holds no allegations against anyone who wished her to be killed. She would like to go back to her land in Pakistan.
