The editor-in-chief of the Atlantic magazine, Jeffrey Goldberg, which broke the story of Trump’s remarks regarding the American war dead as ‘losers’ and ‘suckers,’ says that it was just the tip of the iceberg. On Sunday, while talking to CNN, he said, “I would fully expect more reporting to come out about this and more confirmation and new pieces of information in the coming days and weeks.”

The magazine has received severe backlash from the incumbent administration and its supporters. Primarily because it attributed most of the remarks to anonymous sources, however, Associated Press reported that it had already confirmed half of the remarks.

Meanwhile, Jeffrey Goldberg told CNN that they have the responsibility of channeling the information to the public. He further maintained regarding the sources that it is how the news agencies uncover stories that take place behind the close doors.

He said that in a climate where the country’s president tries to actively intimidate the journalists, it is better to report with anonymous sources, a crucial tool for most news reporters.

Carl Bernstein, the investigative journalist who is best known for breaking the Watergate story that took down the then President Nixon, said that fake news is Trump’s, while media is uncovering the real news. He added on Sunday, “Almost all 200 of our stories about Watergate were based on anonymous sourcing.”

Meanwhile, on Sunday, Trump directly attacked the owner of the magazine, Laurene Powell Jobs. The president said that Powell’s wife would not be happy if her husband keeps wasting the money she left on a failing radical left propaganda magazine.

In response, Goldberg shot back at the president, saying that the magazine would keep doing its job regardless of the pressure it faces. He further added that we will not be intimidated by Trump and vowed to do his job with honesty.
