It’s summer, and whether it’s on a tropical island or in your hometown, heading to the beach seems like a no brainer. Even though it seems like you can show up in anything except your birthday suit, there are some guidelines you should take heed of before you soak up the sun.
Bathing suits are the ultimate wardrobe piece when it comes to beach fashion. While anyone can wear them, rough waves may have some other plans for you. Make sure that your bathing suit can try and survive even if high tide tries to drag you down.
There are a few different types of bathing suits, so schedule your suits and your expected tan lines depending on how and where you spend your day out in the sun.
If you’ll be out in the water, wear a bathing suit that has strong elastic or supportive straps. Fabric that’s used in sports bathing suits will keep everything in, and will leave you a lot less worried about taking a dip in the water. Save the spaghetti straps and the crochet fabric for days when you’re trying to get rid of pesky tan lines.
If you want to save your tan lines, opt for wearing layers on top of your suit. Wet shirts and water shorts are great to layer over bikinis to save you the hassle of hanging on to your top or bottoms for dear life. They come in a variety of types and styles, so it’ll be easy to find one to match your summer closet.
Another important item of beach wear is the cover up. Some cover ups are shirt and pant sets, and some go as far to have matching accessories. While that’s all well and good, for a casual day at the beach, you want something a lot less formal. After all, it only has one job, not two. You can still look amazing and not have to spend a fortune. Pair your bathing suit with a cute t-shirt dress and a great pair of sunglasses. Coordinating a fun sun hat will also spice up your outfit and make it comfortable, too.
It may seem unbelievable, but people do wear actual shoes to the beach. Since sand can damage shoes, ditch the everyday options and opt for something a bit more comfortable. Sandals and flip flops are ideal for strolling along the shore. Wear something that won’t be damaged by the sand; suede and leather shouldn’t be used when going to the beach. Get a cheap pair of sandals and only use them for the beach, it’ll be a lot less of a hassle.
Some of these tips may not seem out of the ordinary, but it’s important to remember the little things the next time you go. Have fun, and don’t forget to pack the sunscreen!
