Why Your Bedroom is the Most Important Room In Your Home

Your bedroom is the space in which you sleep, have personal time with yourself or someone else, and most importantly, one of the places where you look to relax. Not only should this area of your home be taken care of, but it should be kept special in many ways. In most cases, this is where you spend most hours of your day –so it should feel like somewhere you would want to be. Your bedroom is an investment of your time and money, so not only should you treat it like so, but you should also make an effort to create a space for yourself that sets a comfortable environment.

Think of it this way: most days you wake up in your own bedroom. The initial views you have are the surroundings –your walls, window, night table, lamp and everything else within that section of your home. Shouldn’t your bedroom be welcoming? Many may agree that if you start your day off on a good note, feeling great or with a smile, this sets you up for the rest of the day. So if you wake up somewhere you are not pleased with and begin the morning by not liking what you see or feel, the proceeding feelings are often reflective of that. This also goes for the end of your day –most of what you saw when you first opened your eyes may be the last things you see or feel in your day. You take some control of the first and last things you experience by taking as much control as you can of your bedroom.

One of the most essential actions you can do for yourself is create a bedroom that soothes you. Keep anything that is negative, stressful or bothersome out. The best way to start is by making sure that the wall colors and décor not only suit your personality but also bring you good vibes. In regard to wall color, choose one that perhaps not only goes with the furniture you have but also that gives you freedom with decorating the rest of the room. Harsh tones could bring about occasional harsh receptions in your mind and thoughts –while neutral or soft shades may provide calmness, plus this will make it easier to paint over if you so choose.

Decorating is one of the most important aspects of surrounding yourself with things that make you feel positive and less stressed. Anything that holds importance or amazing memories, keep those around –photographs, art, flowers, a few souvenirs or maybe a stuffed animal. A picture of you and family from when you were a kid or the handmade jewelry box you got on your trip to Mexico –these are the types of things you want to keep in sight. Also, when it comes to décor or any of your items, less is more. Keep your bedroom free of clutter and your mind will be free of it as well. Furthermore, the more available space you have, the easier it will be to move around and think. You can’t forget to organize either –if your bedroom is messy your life may mirror that as well. It’s understandable that you will not be neat all the time, but by maintaining things in their place, they and your thoughts will be easier to find. Minimal visible objects and attention to organization will help maintain a positive attitude and help alleviate pressure, worry or anxiety.

On another note – although it’s difficult in certain circumstances, try to keep all work related things – such as computers and notes- out as often as you can. Your work should not take up all spaces in your mind or home –especially your bedroom. You may love your job, but perhaps it should not consume your entire day- leave some time for reflection, relaxation and, most importantly, sleep.

Regard your bedroom as sacred ground, a place that is your sanctuary. By associating your bedroom with serenity and positivity you are setting your days and nights up for the same.
