The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) is trying to track down the owner of a green Skoda Octavia. This happened after the police found a bomb under the car of an off duty officer. This happened on Saturday near Shandon Park golf club in east Belfast, when the bomb was found under one of the police vehicles.
The police launched a cross border investigation after this incident, tracing a Skoda Octavia. The bomb found was sophisticated and dangerous. That kind of firepower is enough to call upon massive damage to everyone living around. The lives of the people who work at the park and the pedestrians were also at risk. An officer remarked that these kinds of devices are made with the intention to kill.
Who did it?
The officers exclaimed that they were lucky that the bomb didn’t explode. If it did, there would be a great loss of both property and many lives. In the center of the investigation are two vehicles, Skoda Octavia and a silver Saab. These vehicles are registered under the Republic of Ireland. The case is filed for “violent dissent republicans.” After police found the bomb, they evacuated almost 70 percent of the people at the golf course.
The assistant chief constable George Clarke said: “We are extraordinarily fortunate that we are not talking about the murder of a police officer, of members of his family or members of the public passing a bomb that has been planted recklessly, cruelly, and viciously under his motor car.” They have requested for any evidence or eyewitnesses available to help them with the investigation. They also requested for any CCTV footage or dash cam footage which may help them in finding the culprit.
The army bomb squad examined the bomb on Saturday. It was found that the explosives used are unstable and is able to cause huge casualties. The bomb was placed in intent to harm the officer off duty. He added that the culprit is very reckless and brutal to place an unstable explosive in the middle of a busy area. He is shaken by this incident, how people overlook the lives of other people in order to hurt him.
Police requesting for help from local people
This case has made the police more vigilant about what they are facing. They realized that not only their life, but also the life of others are also at risk due to these desecrated people. But all are very grateful that it didn’t explode as it was supposed to. Authorities are looking into the CCTV and dash camera footage in hopes it will help to put some light into the culprits of this event. The Police are still asking for help from nearby people.
The Police and their investigative units are keeping an open mind about the bomb and its planter. Incidents like these are orchestrated to promote chaos among the people who mean no harm and live their lives in peace. The Tory MP David Davis said that the people of Northern Ireland do not want to go back to their violent and cruel past and live in peace.
