In a recent interview Ben Stiller opens up about his relationship with the late Joan Rivers, and how the popular icon never liked Stiller throughout her career.
Stiller sat down with Howard Stern where he acknowledged the rocky relationship, after Stern asked about it.
Stiller responded by saying, “She had a thing about me. She didn’t like me.” Stiller clarified that he was unsure why Rivers had an out for him, and seemed a little puzzled when discussing the topic. He went on to say, “I never had an interaction with her. I didn’t understand why she didn’t like me – I mean I can understand that someone doesn’t like me, whatever… You’re allowed to have your opinion, but she had a thing because she was friends with my parents.”
Stern then shined a little light on the subject, and may have given Stiller some insight after all this time. Stern talked with Stiller about how Rivers confessed to him that Stiller brushed her off one evening on the red carpet. Rivers may have been upset with the comedy star for ignoring her, especially because Rivers and Stiller’s parents were friends at the time.
Stiller was a little taken back and proclaimed that he had no idea that the incident happened stating, “First of all, I don’t remember that happening, but I am sure it did. And then I heard that there was a documentary or something and she [was asked] ‘what do you think of Ben Stiller?’ And she said ‘lucky’ or something… So then the beef started.”
Rivers definitely had a voice of her own, and even though Stiller and Rivers had a trivial feud over the years, Stiller still went on to say nice words about the late Rivers. Stiller proclaimed, “But she was great and I feel bad that we never got to work that out. My parents were really friends with her and spent a lot of time and worked with her and she had an amazing career.”
