Bencic rallies past Collins into Wimbledon third round

Swiss 14th seed Belinda Bencic fought back from a set and a break down to defeat American Danielle Collins at Wimbledon on Thursday. Bencic’s 3-6 6-4 7-6(10-2) victory sets up a third-round match against Poland’s Magda Linette.

Collins, a former Australian Open runner-up, dominated the first set and took an early break in the second, putting her in control of the match on Court Two. Bencic struggled to capitalize on her opportunities.

Despite Bencic’s efforts to break Collins back, the American extended her lead. However, Collins’ inconsistent serving allowed Bencic to level the score at 3-3, and the Abu Dhabi and Adelaide champion raised her game to force a deciding set.

In a fiercely-contested fifth game, Bencic held serve and celebrated with clenched fists and a roar. She maintained her composure during the tiebreak to secure the victory.
