Bezzecchi takes pole at inaugural Indian MotoGP

Marco Bezzecchi of VR46 Racing secured his third pole position of the season at the inaugural Indian Grand Prix. He clocked the best time of one minute, 43.947 seconds, narrowly beating Pramac Racing’s Jorge Martin by 0.043 seconds. Reigning MotoGP champion Francesco Bagnaia completed the all-Ducati front row, finishing 0.21 seconds behind Bezzecchi. Bagnaia currently holds a 36-point lead over Martin in the overall standings, with Bezzecchi trailing by 29 points in third place.

In qualifying, Bezzecchi’s teammate Luca Marini qualified in fourth place, ahead of the factory Honda duo Joan Mir and Marc Marquez. Bezzecchi expressed his satisfaction with the pole position, stating that it was a tough challenge but he felt better on the bike compared to the previous day. He dedicated his pole position to a friend who recently passed away.

The Buddh International Circuit, previously known for hosting Formula One races, experienced high temperatures of 33 degrees Celsius (91.4°F) and 72% humidity during the qualifying session. As a result, both the sprint race on Saturday and the main race on Sunday were shortened due to the challenging conditions.

Unfortunately, Gresini Ducati’s Alex Marquez suffered a double rib fracture during qualifying and has been ruled out of the remaining MotoGP weekend. Despite securing a spot in Q2, Marquez crashed on his last Q1 lap and did not participate in the second session. He was taken to the hospital for further examination.

In conclusion, Marco Bezzecchi’s impressive performance earned him pole position at the Indian Grand Prix. The challenging weather conditions led to adjustments in the race schedule, and Alex Marquez’s unfortunate injury affected his participation in the remaining MotoGP events.
