Braves look to bounce back, even series with Phillies

The Atlanta Braves, despite their impressive regular season performance, are facing potential elimination in the National League Division Series against the Phillies, just like last year. To keep their hopes alive, the Braves must win Game 4 and bring the series back to Atlanta for a decisive Game 5. They will rely on pitcher Spencer Strider, a contender for the NL Cy Young Award, to face off against Phillies left-hander Ranger Suarez in a rematch of Game 1. Braves manager Brian Snitker expressed confidence in his team’s pitching rotation.

In Game 3, the Phillies dominated with six home runs, including two each from Bryce Harper and Nick Castellanos, securing a blowout 10-2 victory and taking a 2-1 series lead. The win revived the excitement of “Red October” in Philadelphia after the Phillies bounced back from a tough loss in Game 2. The game ended with a double play that caught Harper off guard, providing the emotional boost the Phillies needed as the series shifted to their home turf. Castellanos believed that the dramatic ending of Game 2 set the tone for their subsequent victory.

Harper had additional motivation in Game 3 after learning that Braves shortstop Orlando Arcia had celebrated his baserunning mistake in the clubhouse. Harper made sure to stare down Arcia each time he rounded the bases. When asked about it, Harper emphasized that responding to comments is part of the game. Arcia, on the other hand, expressed dissatisfaction that his celebration had been leaked to Harper.

During Game 3, Harper contributed four RBIs, while Brandon Marsh had three hits and Castellanos hit two solo home runs. In Game 1, Strider allowed a home run to Harper but otherwise pitched well, allowing two runs and striking out eight. Strider has an impressive record against the Phillies in the regular season but has struggled in playoff starts against them. As the Braves’ only 20-game winner in the regular season, Thursday’s game will be a crucial moment for the 24-year-old pitcher.

On the Phillies’ side, Suarez delivered an excellent performance in Game 1, allowing only one hit and one walk in 3 2/3 scoreless innings. He also had a previous playoff start against the Braves last year, giving up only one run in 3 1/3 innings. Suarez has a solid record against Atlanta in the regular season as well.

Overall, Thursday’s game holds immense significance for both teams, with the Braves fighting to stay alive and the Phillies aiming to secure their spot in the next round of the playoffs.
