Canada Day! One of the biggest and most important days for all Canadians. It is celebrated each year on 1st July. This year, Canada Day is coming on Monday, July 1, 2019. So it will be more enjoyable as it is lined up with a weekend. This day is celebrated in the whole country and even all over the world by Canadians living in different locations.

History: What Exactly is Canada Day?

This special day is considered as the national day of Canada. Earlier it was called Dominion Day. It is also referred to as Canada’s birthday. It is a Federal Statutory Holiday celebrated as an anniversary each year. On 1st July 1867, three colonies named Province of Canada, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick got united into one Dominion within the British Empire that is now known as Canada.

How is Canada Day Celebrated?

It is the 152nd birthday of Canada. It is celebrated with enthusiasm every year as a symbol of a free and united country. The whole country celebrates this day with Canada’s flag flying high in the sky, fireworks, barbecues, parades, concerts, and other patriotic activities.

Canadian Flags:

As a flag is the main symbol for any country to show its nationality, it is the first thing used to celebrate and show the love and respect towards the nation. On this day, the country gets red with the flying red maple leaf flag of Canada. A flag is one of the main things many people choose to celebrate their citizenship towards their country.


No big celebration gets complete without fireworks display before the end of the night. Fireworks is one of the most beautiful ways to light up the whole country on any big day. They make the sky beautiful with different colors of lights. Their sound can be heard from quite a distance away. People express their happiness by burning crackers all over the country.


As Canada Day is like a festival for all the Canadian citizens, they celebrate it to the fullest. Barbecues are one of the choices of people to celebrate this day with full enjoyment. People go outside and enjoy BBQ burgers, grilled veggies, fish, hot dogs, shish kebabs!

Apart from these celebrations, most of the communities host several events such as parades, music concerts, carnivals, air, and maritime shows and citizenship ceremonies. People also show their enthusiasm with the flags painted on their face.

Being the capital of the nation, the largest celebration of Canada Day occurs in Ottawa.
