Champions City shocked by Wolves, Spurs down nine-man Liverpool

Manchester City suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season, losing 2-1 to Wolverhampton Wanderers. Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur secured a 2-1 victory over nine-man Liverpool thanks to a stoppage-time own goal. Arsenal also had a successful day, winning 4-0 against Bournemouth and closing the gap to City to just one point.

Manchester United’s struggles continued as they suffered a 1-0 home loss to Crystal Palace. However, Luton Town celebrated their first victory of the season with a win against Everton.

Prior to their defeat, Manchester City had been in excellent form, winning all six of their previous league games. However, a Ruben Dias own goal put Wolves ahead in the 13th minute. Julian Alvarez equalized for City in the 58th minute, but Hwang Hee-chan scored the winning goal for Wolves in the 66th minute.

This defeat comes after City’s loss to Newcastle United in the League Cup, marking their first back-to-back defeats since January last season. City coach Pep Guardiola expressed disappointment in their defensive performance.

Liverpool also faced disappointment as they lost to Spurs in a match marred by controversial decisions. Liverpool had two players sent off and had a goal wrongly ruled out for offside. Joel Matip’s own goal in stoppage time sealed the win for Spurs.

Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp criticized the referees’ decisions, calling them “unfair circumstances” and “crazy decisions.”

In another match, Manchester United suffered their fourth loss of the season, falling 1-0 to Crystal Palace. Joachim Andersen scored the only goal of the match in the 25th minute.

Arsenal continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 4-0 victory over Bournemouth. Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, and Ben White all found the net for Arsenal.

Luton Town secured their first Premier League victory, moving them out of the relegation zone. Everton created numerous chances but failed to convert, allowing Luton to hold on for the win.

Aston Villa had a successful day, thrashing Brighton & Hove Albion 6-1 with Ollie Watkins scoring a hat-trick. Newcastle United and West Ham United also secured victories over Burnley and Sheffield United, respectively.

Overall, it was a day of surprises and disappointments in the Premier League, with top teams like Manchester City and Liverpool suffering defeats while others, like Arsenal and Luton Town, celebrated victories.
