Cleveland Cavaliers Advance to the NBA Finals

The Atlanta Hawks could not keep up. The key absence in the Hawks’ game was their 3-point shooting. Compared to the Cavaliers’ 40 percent shooting from beyond the arc, the Hawks shot a miserable 23 percent. A team cannot beat the best player in the world and his other teammates shooting so poorly.

During the regular season, Atlanta was the second-best shooting team from 3-point range, shooting 38 percent, a significant advantage that led them to 60 wins. Unfortunately, the Hawks were missing one of their best shooters in Kyle Korver, and they fell to the same thread of history from the 2009 playoffs when they were swept by the Cavaliers.

Cleveland topped off the series with a 30-point win. The team will be making their second NBA Finals appearance since 2007, when a younger LeBron James became familiar with just how good the San Antonio Spurs were. The game score was the “second-largest margin of victory by a team clinching an NBA Finals appearance in a best-of-7 sweep.”

Game 4 was could not be more of an emphatic statement made by LeBron James. He finished the series nearly averaging a triple double. It was an incredible performance that reflected how vital James is to his team and how capable he is of controlling the game. Plain and simple – eastern conference teams do not have an answer for him. You can take away all-star Kevin Love, limit playing minutes for starting point guard Kyrie Irving, lack any sort of depth on the bench, and it still will not be enough to cast LeBron James aside. He’s that good, and he’s also good at making players around him better.

James thinks of his current team as a special group of players. So many caustic headlines surrounded the Cleveland Cavaliers, especially during the early bit of the season when they held an 19-20 record.

Anderson Varejao got injured and could not play for the rest of the season. The shooting guard spot was up in the air, as Dion Waiters and then Shawn Marion each had their shot at securing the position. Everyone was calling for an early exit of rookie coach David Blatt, talks circulated about acquiring a new point guard, and whether James and Irving could play with one another.

Despite the negative discussions and the team’s nascent experience playing with one another, they came together as a unit. The mid-season trades to acquire J.R. Smith, Iman Shumpert and Timofey Mosgov proved to be critical. After sitting out for a period of two weeks, James returned to a healthy state, and Irving and Tristan Thompson found their roles on the court. It all seemed to come together, and James emerged as the leader they needed him to be

Now he finds himself making history, appearing in six NBA Finals, and becoming the ninth player in NBA history to make five straight appearances as reported by the Elias Sports Bureau.

Social media exploded when the Cleveland Cavaliers secured their trip to the finals.

Former teammate Dwyane Wade gives a special shoutout to LeBron James.

Then the post-game celebrations began.

As for the Cavaliers winning a championship this year, James speaks to that as well. “I can not guarantee anything. I can’t guarantee a championship. That’s not what I’m here for. I’m here to lead. I will guarantee that we will play our asses off.”

Chances are favoring the passing of the Golden State Warriors to the NBA Finals, but we will have to wait and see if the last postseason matchup will pin the league’s incumbent MVP against the three-time MVP.
