Clinton’s Top Aide Leaves Husband Anthony Wiener After Latest Sexting Scandal

Huma Abedin dealt with Anthony Weiner’s private life since they tied the knot in 2010. She heavily campaigned for her husband’s Congressional wins and for Mayor of New York in 2013. In 2011 Weiner’s reputation was damaged after a series of sexting scandals were made known to the public. Seemingly rebuilding their marriage, Wiener again failed to leave behind his urges and in 2016 continued to send lewd pictures to more woman.

Abedin is known for being very close to Clinton’s inner circle, acting as vice chairwoman for Clinton’s presidential campaign. She received criticism after a subpoena was filed by the State Department in 2016 when it was known that the Clinton Foundation charity accepted foreign donations, one of those donations later revealed to be coming from the crown prince of Bahrain where Abedin was the frequent collaborator.

Abedin released a statement on her separation from Weiner:

“After long painful consideration and work on my marriage, I have made the decision to separate from my husband,” Abedin said. “Anthony and I remain devoted to doing what’s best for our son, who is the light of our life. During this difficult time, I ask for respect for our privacy.”

Monday’s report was additional to the fact that Weiner and Abedin were estranged for nearly a year. Since 2011, Weiner vowed never to sext again but was caught in an online relationship with another woman in 2013, essentially ending his bid for Mayor of New York. A documentary focusing on the couple’s marital problems during his bid for mayor was released in May of that year titled Weiner. He was also caught sexting again through his Twitter account in 2014 and 2015.

Donald Trump used the separation as fuel against Hillary Clinton lamenting that it was an issue of national security.

“I only worry for the country in that Hillary Clinton was careless and negligent in allowing Wiener to have such close proximity to highly classified information,” Trump said. “Who knows what he learned and who he told? It’s just another example of Hillary Clinton’s bad judgment. It is possible that our country and its security have been greatly compromised by this.”

Abedin’s separation will likely be a sign of relief for those close to the campaign.
