In an interview with ABC’s Good Morning America, prominent reality TV star Colton Underwood revealed that he was gay. He also added that he had been in the closet for the longest time, hating and judging himself. Nevertheless, he decided that enough was enough, regrating every day he despised himself for forces he couldn’t control.

“I’m also gay. And I’ve been processing that since I realized it earlier this year. And the next step in all of this was to inform people,” he explained.

Colton stated that at some point in life, he felt despairing. He discussed his Catholic faith openly and having “suicidal thoughts” that led him to “regain control” of his life.

Who is Underwood?

Colton, a former football player and ex-member of the Bachelorette, made headlines when he publicly announced that he was a virgin. Colton, who became the audience’s favorite when he first appeared on the 14th season of the Bachelorette, which premiered in May 2018, left many shocked. Underwood explained that the reason for his status was his strong belief in Catholic values.

Later, ABC revealed that Underwood would return in the 23rd season of “The Bachelor,” which they heavily marketed as featuring the “Virgin Bachelor.”

During the 2019 season’s finale, Underwood chose contestant Cassie Randolph. However, the two split up, and Randolph subsequently requested a restraining order against him. Randolph reported that Underwood stalked and threatened her but eventually backed out of the request.

Underwood stated that when he found out he was named the season’s star, he “prayed to God” and “thanked him for making him straight.” According to ABC News, the lad expressed delight at the prospect of marrying a woman and starting a family.

Underwood Remarks on Gayism

There is so much happening in the current times. Matters to do with sex, religion, feminism, etc., have become a significant topic. For example, it is not every day that you hear people talk freely about gayism and other forms of homosexuality because it is a controversial matter dependent on critical thinking.

Judging from Underwood’s past experiences in life, he is a God-fearing man, with Christian values deeply embedded in him. As such, growing up, he learned from his Catholic grade school that gayism is a sin. During his football career, he often heard people use the word gay as a negative connotation.

Therefore, such remarks made it difficult for him to come out as a gay man. It was only after reflecting on himself that he decided to follow his truth. Other than him, Underwood said that the turbulent year of 2020 caused people to look in the mirror and find out who they are and what they’ve been hiding from or holding off in their lives.

Before the interview ended, Underwood told Roberts that telling the truth has brought him closer to God, though he acknowledged that others would not understand how.

“I used to wake up in the morning and pray for him to take the gay away. I used to pray for him to change me. Now, his relationship with God isn’t conditional,” said Underwood.
