Wuhan, the epicenter of the deadly coronavirus, reported a new cluster of infections in the last 24 hours, along with north-eastern Jilin Province reporting a dozen cases. The National Health Commission (NHC) on Monday reported that five new cases had been identified, all from a local community in the Sanmin neighborhood of ‘Dongxihu’ District in Wuhan. This is the highest number of cases reported since March 11, almost a month before the end of strict lockdown in Wuhan. The area’s emergency response level has been changed from low to medium-risk. The entire neighborhood, with nearly 5,000 residents, is now expected to be tested for the virus.
New coronavirus clusters in Wuhan previously identified Asymptomatic.
The latest Wuhan coronavirus cluster cases were all previously classified as asymptomatic. It means that they tested positive for coronavirus; however, they exhibited no symptoms. Interestingly, China does not include the asymptomatic cases in its tally unless they show the clinical symptoms. The government is now monitoring all the asymptomatic cases in Wuhan. Thousands of people returning to work in Wuhan are samples tested for antibodies, even the ones who are asymptomatic. The authorities try to derive the immunity levels of people in Wuhan in a bid to prevent a second wave of coronavirus in the worst-affected city of China, where the virus originated in late December 2019.

Shulan City locked down as 11 new cluster coronavirus cases emerge
Meanwhile, another city named ‘Shulan’, located in north-eastern Jilin Province reported 11 new cases. With the new cluster of coronavirus infections arising in Shulan, the city went into lockdown on Monday. The government imposed martial law in the area. Shulan is now the only labeled high-risk city in mainland China. All public transportation has been halted with the borders sealed to control any in/outflow from Shulan.
China has seen a marginal decline of cases over the previous weeks and has eased the restrictions in the country, with workplaces, schools, and other important places open for the citizens after around three and half months. The country saw a peak in coronavirus cases during late-January and February, which triggered strict lockdowns, especially in Wuhan and all of the Hubei Province. Later in March, China was able to bring down the cases to zero with the exception of internationally imported cases in the country.
Although the worst-hit countries like the US and UK have begun to ease the restrictions owing to decline in cases, the race to build a vaccine for coronavirus is in full gear, with various countries having reached the clinical and human trials for the vaccine. However, experts and doctors have warned that the pandemic is far from over.
