Craig Green Unveils First-Ever A/W 15 Campaign

With the cinematic skill of film director Nick Knight, British designer Craig Green debuts his fashion campaign. Knight has created quite a name for himself in not only the film industry, but rather strongly in the fashion industry as well. His work has seen the likes of Dior, Yohgi Yamamoto, John Galliano, Alexander McQueen and more. Both he and Green teamed up to create a fashion film, a work displaying his latest collection of clothing, A/W 15, adding a touch of fluidity in slight juxtaposition to his dynamic campaign images.

The video, produced entirely in slow motion, features four individuals, three models and one dancer, all garbed in Green’s recent designs. While visually appealing and booming with intriguing artistic composition, I was left scratching my head at the meaning behind it all. The fashion film presented model-dancers leaping, dodging, and tackling mid-air, appearing to aim for the male in opposing colors; two were in red, two in black.

Next up in Green’s campaign are the images, which one would expect to be provided with at least an ounce more of clarity as to the connotation of the campaign. Instead of displaying a collection of 20-plus images, Green supplies his audience with a scarce three images – stills from the fashion film. While the designer’s pieces are a bit unrealistic and out of the box in terms, making the overall aesthetic and details like ribbons, kite-like props, and sheer fabrics pleasing to the eye, no one would actually walk out in public wearing the clothing from his collection. A/W 15 seems to be more about the action captured in the shots than the actual clothing.

In addition to the fashion film, Nick Knight created Tableau, a combination of images from Green’s campaign shots. Tableau was produced for SHOWstudio, which, according to Knight is,

“Based on the belief that showing the entire creative process — from conception to completion — is beneficial for the artist, the audience and the art itself.”

The Overview section of the campaign reads,

“References included shots of football and rugby tackles, and the final images toy with themes of chaos and aggression.”

Although visually appealing, Craig Green’s A/W 15 campaign, without a doubt, will leave you wanting more.
