Alex Timbers is allegedly negotiating to direct Disney’s new live action film Cruella. The classic 101 Dalmatians villain movie is set to star Emma Stone.
Reportedly the most recent version of the screenplay has been written by Jez Butterworth. Aline Brosh McKenna is also credited as another writer for the screenplay.
Andrew Gunn is set to produce the film. Jessica Virtue and Kristin Burr are set to oversee the film for the studio.
The film is produced overall by Walt Disney Pictures and Andrew Gun’s production studio Gunn Films. The new movie is reportedly going to be filmed in London, England.
Previously, Disney considered a batch of directors for their new movie. Most of the directors were reportedly directors known for their theater work, like Sam Gold.
Cruella De Vil is the infamous villain in the 1961 animated film 101 Dalmatians. Glenn Close previously played the iconic villain in the 1996 live action version of 101 Dalmatians.
The 1996 live action film was directed by John Hughes.
According to IMDb, Glenn Close is involved in the new Cruella movie as an executive producer.
The latest film follows Disney’s trend of rebooting classic animated films like Beauty and the Beast. Films like The Jungle Book have been adapted into live-action hit blockbusters.
Alex Timbers is known for his work on Broadway. The director is credited for two Tony nominations for his play work. Timbers has worked on the play adaptation of Rocky and Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson.
Timbers also directed a feature film from Amazon called Mozart in the Jungle. The director is reportedly working on other new projects with Disney. One new developing film is an untitled William Shakespeare musical that is produced under Disney.
The details of Cruella’s production is currently being kept under wraps by the studio. Hopefully, now that the project as obtained a director, Disney will release new information about the film’s production process.
The new Disney live action film Cruella has an estimated release date around 2018.
