A close and prominent ally of Donald Trump has urged the incumbent to give up on his efforts to overturn the victory of his rival in the presidential election. Chris Christie, the former governor of New Jersey, called the President a “national embarrassment.”
Since the international and local media projected Biden’s lead in the presidential vote, Trump has repeatedly refused to concede to victory and has made unsubstantiated claims of voter fraud. Even though many Republicans are backing Trump’s move, but a small yet growing number of them have now broken ranks.

Meanwhile, the states across the country have started to certify the results of the November 3 vote. And Biden is projected to win more than the needed electoral votes on December 14, when the electors are scheduled to meet. On January 20, President-elect is set to assume office, and Twitter has already said that on the same day, Trump will lose control of the Presidential social media handle.
While talking to a local news channel, Christie said that the behavior of Trump’s legal team is “frankly a national embarrassment” for all Americans. He further added that his campaign team was discussing voter fraud outside the courtroom, but whenever they are in the court, they don’t argue fraud.
The former governor of New Jersey said he has been a Trump supporter and added that elections have consequences, and it better for the incumbent to concede to his rival’s victory. On Saturday, Trump’s legal team faced another serious blowback as a US District Court judge dismissed the lawsuit seeking to disenfranchise a million votes.
The judgment paved the way for the state authorities to certify the results, but Trump’s team has said that it would appeal in the apex court, where Trump has repeatedly said he expects favorable justice. Back in 2016, Christie was the first Republican to endorse Donald Trump as the Republican Presidential candidate. Earlier this year, he also assisted the incumbent for his presidential debates with Biden.
Meanwhile, Sidney Powell, a lawyer who appeared with Trump’s legal team in Thursday’s press conference, accused that millions of ballots were illegally transferred from the voting machines. Even though Powell is yet to provide any evidence to back her claims, the Trump campaign on Sunday issued a statement distancing itself from her and said that she was practicing law on her own.
Contrary to the campaign’s claims, earlier this month, the incumbent explicitly mentioned her name as a part of his legal team. On Sunday, several other Republicans broke the ranks, including Maryland’s Governor Larry Hogan, Michigan Representative Fred Upton, and North Dakota Senator Kevin Cramer, urged the President to concede to victory.
