Mitt Romney, a key Republican Senator, stated that the latest cyberattack on the United States was very damaging for the government. He further added that President Donald Trump has a “blind spot” when it comes to Moscow, which the American intelligence officials think was behind the attack.
While talking to a local news channel, he said, “We’ve come to recognize that the president has a blind spot when it comes to Russia.” Many researchers and government officials have suggested that dozens of departments have been infiltrated by the hackers and thousands exposed in what is being dubbed as the worst ever cyberattack in American history.

On Saturday, President Trump acknowledged the attack but stated that the local media exaggerated the situation. Despite the statement from Mike Pompeo, the secretary of state who blamed Moscow for the attack, Trump stated that Russia was wrongfully being blamed for the cyber breach. Besides, without presenting any evidence, the incumbent claimed that the Chinese government could be behind the attack.
The extraordinary development comes at a challenging time when the US is facing numerous challenges, including the coronavirus pandemic and a contentious presidential transition amid unsubstantiated claims of voter fraud by a sitting president.
On the other hand, Mark Warner, a Democratic Senator, told a local news channel that the attack could be still going on and added that the US intelligence officials have not yet managed to determine the scope of the cyberattack. However, Mark stopped short of using a strong word like Senator Mitt Romney, who called the breach an “invasion.”
But the Democrat still backed the Republican senator’s call for a strong retaliation to the attack, arguing that the US must tell its rivals that if they take such an action against America, then “we will strike back.” Once the US president-elect Joe Biden takes office on January 20, his administration plans to take strict action against the Russians’ potential role in the latest cyberattack.
While talking to CBS, Ron Klain, the incoming White House chief of staff, stated that Biden was thinking beyond the sanctions. Ron said that they were looking forward to taking steps that could hurt the capacity of the foreign actors to engage in such hacks against.
