This year, the 60th annual Eurovision contest was held at Vienna in Austria. The purpose of this contest is to “build bridges” between the participating countries and get them all together in the spirit of a friendly competition.

Countries like Ukraine, Serbia, Austria and Sweden are among the 40 nations that participate in this competition. That makes the Eurovision the world’s grandest singing competition.
The contestants participating in the finals were Russia, Sweden and Italy. In the final show, the Swedish contestant Mans Zelmerlow won. He sang the pop ballad called “Heroes” for the audience. Apparently, he was one of the favorites who the crowd had been in favor of.

Zelmerlow’s win has now made it the 6th time that Swed has won the Eurovision Contest. Zelmerlow said in an interview, “It was absolutely amazing, I didn’t hear it when they first said it.” He went on to say that he found out ten seconds later. Zelmerlow was beaming when he told the press, “I couldn’t believe it, I really thought that either Russia or Italy was going to win. But when we passed Russia the first time, I actually shed a couple of tears; Oh yes I did.”

Next year, Sweden will be hosting the Eurovision singing contest and they will be just one win away from Ireland for the title of the highest number of wins in the history of this contest.
