Facebook Now Has Critic Restaurant Reviews

Facebook has been adding new features to their site lately. One in particular is competing with websites like Yelp, giving you instant reviews on restaurants, but not just any kind, actual critic reviews.

Just two weeks ago the social media site added hosting for news articles, now they are adding a place for professional food critics to leave their reviews on a restaurant.

This new feature could help Facebook boost their search feature, potentially competing with companies like Yelp and Google. This new feature is actually a step up to what Yelp provides.

On top of friends reviews, you will have access to what a paid professional thinks of the restaurant, making it that much easier to find a place to eat.

Facebook will be partnering with Bon Appetit, Conde Nast Traveler, Eater, New York Magazine, and the San Francisco Chronicle for their new project.

In an email to The Verge, a Facebook spokeswoman claimed:

“Since reviews are such an important part of helping people make informed decisions about what to do locally, we’re excited to be incorporating a new way for people to use Facebook to find the best real-world experiences.”

She also announced that “thousands” of restaurants will be involved in the reviews.

As for the restaurants, this can be either a good or bad thing. Till now they have been using Facebook to advertise their business and like most advertisements that means controlling what you see about them.

Now they are under review, that can either be positive or negative. Facebook says they will be featuring negative reviews if they receive them by the publisher.

Thus far, the only restaurants being reviewed as of now are ones from “best of” lists.
