A man and his 10-year-old child were finally rescued in the Australian outback, almost 24 hours after their car was stuck in the floodwater roads while driving through north-west Queensland on Sunday. The group of five people, including the man and son, were stuck in the middle of an isolated and remote area near Mount Isa, Queensland, and there was no help as they spent the whole Sunday night in the car.

On Monday morning, 3 of the passengers left the car and started walking to find help, and they walked for about 50 km (31 miles) until they reached a police station in the town of Mount Isa. It took them nearly 12 hours to cover the distance, all on foot. As soon as they reached, they informed the authorities of the father-son duo who were still stuck in the floodwaters, and soon a rescue operation was launched by RACQ Life Flight Rescue.

The passengers helped locate the man and child through sharing locations, and the rescue team successfully spotted the car with the two people in the remote area just before dusk. They found the man and his son sitting on the top of their car, and the duo was delighted to finally receive help after spending the whole night and day stuck in the car.

Survival is difficult if stranded in Australia’s outback
Australia's Outback

Australia’s outback is a vastly remote area which is located in the center of Australia. Due to the area being mostly uninhabited, it’s a dangerous situation to get stuck or lost in that place. There have been certain terrible instances in the past in Australia’s outback where many people who got stranded in the area in the scorching summer could not make it because they could not reach for help. In high temperatures and without food or water, the chances of survival become bleak.

Australian Man and Child stayed in one spot for full one day

The RACQ Life Flight Rescue authorities stated to the media that both the man and his 10-year old were in good health and no medical treatment was required. They were picked up by the helicopter and flown to the airport in Mount Isa. Rescue pilot ‘Russell Proctor’ also appreciated the duo’s efforts in staying safe throughout the ordeal.

He said that the key was to stay put in the vehicle, which they did, and also kept themselves hydrated throughout. He praised them for holding on at one spot for so long until help arrived. The three passengers who had walked all the way for help also did not require any medical attention, as told by Queensland Ambulance.

With heavy rainfalls lashing the continent this summer, Australia’s Queensland is witnessing flooding in various areas, including Australia’s outback, which led to the traveler’s vehicle getting stuck in the muddy waters in the middle of the plains.
