The Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) is looking into whether foreign organizations or governments provided financial assistance to the people involved in the US Capitol riots. The unprecedented chaos that unfolded in the US Capitol resulted in as many as five fatalities, including a police officer.
Reportedly, the FBI is looking into a payment worth $500,000 in cryptocurrency by a French national. While talking to the local news channel, an FBI official stated that the amount was transferred to many groups and individuals before the US Capitol attack.

The payments were documented by an online website that keeps track of cryptocurrency transactions, and it posted it last week. Bitcoin’s payments are documented on a public ledger, and that is why those can be easily traced. Meanwhile, the French media reported that the whopping transfer appears to have been made by a computer programmer, who took his own life last year after the transfers.
The massive cryptocurrency transfers prompted the federal investigation agency to investigate whether the amount was used in any illegal activity.
Chainalysis, a cryptocurrency-related website, reported that the French donor sent 28.5 Bitcoins – worth about $522,000 at the time of transfer – to more than twenty-two separate addresses, many of which belong to far-right groups. Besides, Yahoo News quoted the Chainalysis blog and reported that Nick Fuentes, a far-right podcaster received more than $250,000 worth of Bitcoins.
Separately, last week, several security agencies, including the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security, stated that since the US Capitol riots, “Russian, Iranian, and Chinese influence actors have seized the opportunity to amplify narratives in furtherance of their policy interest amid the presidential transition.”
The unclassified intelligence report said that the Russian state and proxy have amplified themes related to Trump’s impeachment, social media censorship, and the Congress attack. It further added that Beijing has also seized the opportunity to denigrate US democratic governance, justifying the Chinese crackdown in Hong Kong.
