FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee has issued a provisional suspension of 90 days for Luis Rubiales, the head of the Spanish soccer federation (RFEF). This decision comes in the midst of controversy surrounding Rubiales, who kissed player Jenni Hermoso on the lips without her consent after Spain’s victory at the Women’s World Cup. Despite expectations of his resignation, Rubiales has stated that he will not step down, and the RFEF has threatened legal action to defend him. In response, FIFA has suspended Rubiales from all football-related activities and has ordered him and RFEF officials to refrain from contacting Hermoso or anyone associated with her. The Spanish national team and other players have also expressed their refusal to participate in international matches as long as Rubiales remains in his position. The chairman of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has communicated this decision to Rubiales, the RFEF, and UEFA for compliance. The committee has stated that no further information will be provided until a final decision is made. There has been no immediate response from the RFEF, and UEFA has been contacted for comment.
