China’s defense ministry has expressed concern over the frequent deployment of ships and aircraft by certain countries in the East and South China Seas, which it believes is done to showcase their military power for their own interests. The ministry spokesperson, Tan Kefei, stated that these actions have escalated tensions in the region, despite the overall stability in the East China Sea and South China Sea. Tan also criticized Japan’s defense report for presenting a distorted view of China and exaggerating the so-called Chinese military threat. China has strongly protested against Japan’s report and accused Japan of interfering in its internal affairs and undermining Sino-Japanese relations.

Japan recently released its annual defense paper, which highlighted concerns about China’s territorial ambitions, its security partnership with Russia, and the threat posed by North Korea. Last year’s paper also criticized Russia’s actions in Ukraine and raised concerns about the use of force in resolving disputes, particularly in relation to Taiwan. Furthermore, Japan announced plans to double its defense spending over the next five years, marking its largest military build-up since World War Two.

In response to Japan’s claims, Tan emphasized that China’s defense cooperation with Russia is based on principles of non-alignment, non-confrontation, and non-targeting of third parties. He reiterated China’s commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region and the world without posing a threat to any country.

Overall, China’s defense ministry is concerned about the actions of certain countries in the East and South China Seas, which it believes are aimed at showcasing military power for self-interest. The ministry has criticized Japan’s defense report for exaggerating the Chinese military threat and interfering in China’s internal affairs. China maintains that its defense cooperation with Russia is peaceful and aims to promote regional and global stability.
