A former “Power Ranger” star’s character experience may have saved his life from a threatening roommate.
Ricardo Medina Jr., 36, was arrested because it is believed that the former power ranger killed his roommate, Joshua Sutter with a sword in their apartment in Palmdale, California during a fight. He is said to have acted in self defense.
Medina was best known for his role as the Red Lion Wild Force Ranger in the television series, “Power Rangers Wild Force,” which originally aired in 2002. He has also voiced the character Deker for the television show as well as the portrayal of the character in the video game “Power Rangers Samurai.
Medina Jr. has been jailed for suspicion of his participation in the crime, and officials stated that his bail has been set at 1 million dollars.
A spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office said that the two roommates became heated in an argument around 4p.m. on Saturday. Medina then locked himself in his bedroom with his girlfriend.
Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez said that Sutter tried to get in the locked door, causing Medina to reach for a sword next this bed; this then led to Median stabbing Sutter in the abdomen.
Medina’s agent, Gar Lester expressed to the Los Angeles Times that he was shocked to hear the news about his client and said they were in fact hard to believe.
Lester states, “He’s been my friend and client for 12 years and he’s a great guy. He’s great to his dog, he’s great to his people. He’s really a super person.”
“I’m very, very, very sorry for what occurred,” Medina said to gathered news media. “I’m very happy to be out of jail, and my heart goes out to the Sutter family,” states Medina, after he was released from prison on Monday.
Medina appeared in court on Tuesday, and prosecutors did not press charges against the young actor because they believed he was acting in self defense.
