Now that we are in the swing of 2015, it’s time to tackle those New Year’s resolutions! It’s difficult to jumpstart into your New Year’s goals on cold, chilly days. Instead of curling behind your laptop screen, watching Netflix in your fuzzy robe, take the initiative and start planning out your resolutions in your daily life. Here are a few tips to help you get started.
1. Keep a journal By using a journal, you can write all of your New Year’s resolutions down so that you can visually lay out your goals in front of you. You can also evaluate why you want to achieve these particular resolutions. Once you understand what changes you want to see—and understand them, you will become motivated to check resolutions off of your list.
2. Unplug This basically means: spend time alone by yourself without any distractions. You can do this by actually turning off the phone, disconnecting your devices from Wi-Fi, or hiding all off your electronics from plain sight just for an hour or so. Once you have this “me time,” you will be able to evaluate what goals you want to accomplish and focus on in order to fulfill your resolutions. You can take this time to exercise, read, prepare steps for your diet, or reflect on your day. The point is—no distractions. After you clear your mind from distractions, you will be able to lessen the chances of finding excuses that could prevent you from being proactive with your resolutions.
3. Get a planner Having a planner can help you schedule time in your daily schedule for your New Year’s resolutions. You can set up daily reminders on your cell phone to make sure you do not forget the steps you plan on taking to achieve your New Year goals. With a planner, or cell phone reminders, you will be able to get into a daily routine that will help you reach your goals sooner. The great thing to keep in mind is that once something becomes part of your daily routine, you will not think twice about doing it, thus making the pressure of New Year’s resolutions almost disappear and easier to tackle.4. Do research Instead of scrolling through, posting pictures, or updating statuses on your social media pages, take the time during cold winter nights to do research on the resolutions your have. If you want to lose a certain amount of weight look up different workout routines and diet plans that you can discuss with your doctor. Become more aware of the factors that go into achieving your New Year’s goals and you will conquer your resolutions in no time.
