Former Ghana forward Raphael Dwamena, 28, died on Saturday while playing for a local team in Albania, according to a statement from the Albanian Football Federation. Dwamena lost consciousness on the pitch and received first aid before being taken to the hospital. Despite the efforts of specialist doctors, he unfortunately passed away. As a result, all games scheduled in Albania this week have been postponed. Dwamena had previously been diagnosed with a heart condition in 2017 and had collapsed on the pitch during a game in Austria in 2021, but was quickly stabilized. Ghana Football Association President Kurt Edwin Simeon Okraku praised Dwamena’s contributions to the national team, stating that he served his country well and displayed class in every appearance. Dwamena represented Ghana nine times and scored two goals. The report was provided by Florion Goga, written by Fatos Bytyci, and edited by Ed Osmond.
