The convenience of a Google Fiber cable box is about to ramp up. As of June 1st, Google has converted Google Fiber cable boxes into Chromecast. Eventually, household Google devices will be updated with Google Cast (the basis of Chromecast).
Just by downloading Chromecast onto your phone, you can cast your favorite forms of entertainment from your phone, tablet, or laptop to your TV and speakers. From Chromecast’s building blocks of technology, Fiber TV users will be able to see thousands of apps on their television screens.
Using a phone to pull up apps on the screen, an enlarged image is sure to draw you into your apps even more– the inclusion of friends and family can make for a unified experience
The downside? Some big name apps haven’t yet caught up to Google Fiber technology. To pull up Spotify, HBO Now, Hulu, Watch ESPN, various Disney channels, and Watch ABC, Fiber users may have to wait some time. This could potentially turn people away from Google Fiber’s updated cable boxes.
Fear not– eventually, Fiber users on the apps’ side will increase. The Google Fiber cable box spares the need for an HDMI port on a Chromecast. According to Google, “no additional equipment or setup is needed.” Without the use of a single HDMI port, buyers could be more likely to support the new technology.
Paired with the efficiency of the Fiber cable box, is the price of the update: free. Similarly to every Apple iPhone update people download, devices can be updated with just the download pop-up.
Although Fiber needs catching up to do with Google’s cable competitors, they are on the right track for convenience.
