Google Flights Now Predicts Price Jumps

Google Flights is raising the bar with new features, including the ability to show users when fares might increase. One of the hardest things about traveling is booking an affordable trip. Google plans to make traveling less stressful this holiday season, according to Monday’s blog post. The site is introducing a number of new features to make the process easier for travelers.

A notable new feature is one that informs users if a particular fare is likely to increase. Upon searching a flight, a notification may appear detailing when the fare is expected to increase. This feature also estimates how much money would be saved booking prior to the expected increase.

For users who are just browsing routes, Google Flights will show ‘tips’ about how to find the best deal. Suggestions include alternate dates and routes plus information about possible fare increases based on historic prices. Users will have the option to receive email notifications to ‘track’ when prices might change for a specific flight or route.

Google Flights is also vowing that finding flights on the go will be easier. The mobile version of Google Flights will also see some upgrades. New improvements make it possible for users to track and manage saved flights on their mobile devices. Google has been promoting these mobile improvements on Twitter:

The site does not limit its new features to flight searches and reasonable fares. When searching Google for hotels, users will be able to recognize deals for the location that they are searching. There will be labels indicating discounts and comparisons to historical pricing. Users can also ‘explore’ different destinations based on the type of vacation they search for.

Google’s blog post states the fare expiration and expected price jump notifications will be available on Google Flights in the coming weeks.
