Remove China Apps is an app that got popularity in recent weeks. Recently, Google has removed the app from the Play Store.
It is the top app in India, which has been downloaded more than 5 million times since May. Moreover, it enabled users to delete apps made by Chinese firms. Google has removed the app from Android’s marquee app store for violating the Deceptive Behavior Policy of Google Play Store.
According to this policy, an app can’t make changes on the users’ device, without the user’s prior consent. Moreover, it doesn’t remove or disable third-party apps.
The Indian firm OneTouch AppLabs developed the app. It got popularity in India due to an anti-China sentiment among several citizens. Moreover, the tension between the two nations has escalated due to the Himalayan border dispute.
Recently, many Indian celebrities have encouraged the idea of deleting Chinese apps. The famous Yoga guru Baba Ramdev tweeted a video in which he deleted several apps that had connections with China.
The Chinese state-run Global Times news outlet stated that the Indian government shouldn’t allow the irrational sentiment to continue. Otherwise, it will ruin the bilateral relations that will get punishment from Beijing.
According to the report, some Chinese ridiculed the Remove China Apps and urged Indians to throw smartphones.
If this sentiment continues, it will be bad news for several Chinese firms, like UC Browser and ByteDance, that count India as their biggest market.
TikTok also started a new debate over the weekend after a creator claimed that she posted the video was taken down by the Chinese firm.
According to her, the video criticized the Chinese government. A TikTok spokesperson said in a statement that the platform loves diversity and different viewpoints. Moreover, it had a rigorous review process and reinstated the video.
Back in April, India changed its foreign direct investment policy to start tougher scrutiny on the Chinese investors that want to cut checks to the firms. New Delhi has a similar view for investors from several neighboring countries.
The Indian Prime Minister, Modi, has also promoted boycotting goods from foreign firms. He also advised the 1.3 billion people living in the nation to look for alternatives to make India “self-sufficient” and revive the economy.
