Gucci’s New Ad Campaign

Gucci ads always had an intense air of sexuality and luxury. But gone are the days of flipping through Vogue and coming across a two paged spread of a group of four models looking like they are about to have an orgy with the clothes on because they look that good.

This is because for the first time thirteen years Gucci has a new Artistic Director. According to Fashionista.com Alessandro Michele took over in January. The pre-fall ads were released online this past Tuesday. This is his first project as the boss.

Michele went in a completely new direction with the ad campaign for womens and mens clothes. Style.com reported that the ads give off a retro 70s vibes, which is not the typical Gucci ad. He hired Glen Luchford as the new photographer, Joe McKenna as the stylist, and the model trio of: Julia Hafstrom, Alexandra Elizabeth, and Jack Chambers.

The atmosphere is set in a seedy apartment with nothing but the models and a worn-in looking couch and rug set. A strange feature in the ads only one model’s face is visible in every picture, and the other’s face is either not shown or cut off.

Surprisingly the cloths, that were designed by former creative director Frida Giannini fit with Michele’s vision. New York Magazine described the Fall 2015 collection as “Wes Anderson”

Louis Vuitton is recently heading in a new creative direction too. It will be interesting to see the evolution of both men’s and women’s fashion clothing and their ads campaigns; which are now heavily social media driven to reach the online community shoppers looking for fashionable cloths.
