Cooking personality and Food Network star, Guy Fieri, officiated 101 same sex marriages, while attending the annual South Beach Wine and Food Festival. The event took place at the James Royal Palm hotel, and was hosted by acclaimed Chef, Art Smith; a chef who is a gay man and married.
The event was announced last January after the ruling that gay couples were able to marry in Florida. The popular Chef, Smith, who used to work for Oprah Winfrey and Governor Bob Graham, decided this sort of event would be a perfect celebration for the recent news for the gay community.
Many couples flocked to be wed during the event, but Smith held a Twitter contest where the first 101 couples on the social media platform to message him, would be allegeable to wed at the gathering with Fieri, in attendance for the ceremonies.
Fieri was there to pay honor to his sister who passed away and who was also a lesbian, while wearing a tailored suit and a very vibrant purple shirt.
After the nuptials ended, the guests were treated to a feast made and prepared by some of the best chefs in the country consisting of fried chicken, grilled lamb, crab-stuffed avocados, empanadas, and the piece of resistance was a seven-tier gold and silver cake made by “Ace of Cakes,” star, Duff Goldman.
Goldman wanted to participate after he heard a baker decided to not make a cake for a lesbian couple because of their sexual preference and commented by stating, “My only agenda is to celebrate this and make it true in every state. We are not arbitrators of morality, we’re cake decorators.”
