Habs rally in third period to tackle Sabres

The Montreal Canadiens defeated the Buffalo Sabres 3-1 on Monday night, with Brendan Gallagher and Tanner Pearson each contributing a goal and an assist in the third period. Jake Allen made 36 saves to secure the victory for the Canadiens. Despite being outshot 37-27, Montreal managed to take the lead early in the third period when Gallagher capitalized on a rebound to score his second goal of the season. Later in the period, Gallagher set up Pearson for a successful one-timer, extending the Canadiens’ advantage. Allen’s strong performance in goal helped Montreal kill four of Buffalo’s five power-play chances. The Canadiens have earned seven points in their first five games of the season. On the other hand, the Sabres, who scored their lone goal through Jeff Skinner, have struggled on the power play and currently have a 2-4 record. The Canadiens got off to a quick start, scoring the game’s first goal just under three minutes into the opening period. Justin Barron capitalized on a rebound to score the first goal of the season by a Montreal defenseman. However, the Sabres quickly responded with a power-play goal from Skinner. Despite Buffalo’s offensive pressure in the second period, Allen made several key saves to keep the game tied. Rasmus Dahlin of the Sabres recorded an assist in the game, bringing his season total to six assists in five consecutive games.
