Humans Are Not the Only Species That Are Affecting the Climate Change

While it is claimed that humankind is the main culprit behind climate change, it has just been reported that some animals in particularly beavers may hold some of the blame.

It was not too long ago that beavers were in danger of being extinct from this Earth, but mankind joined in on the efforts of preserving these critters. It turns out while a species was saved a new potential threat has emerged to the environment. Now there is an estimated ten million wild and captive beavers around the world.

Many know that beavers live in dams that they build upon bodies of water. These dams are one of the main reasons as to why beaver have been contributing so much to increasing levels of greenhouse emissions. The problem results from the shallow pools of water that result from the blockage created by beavers. These ponds release 882,000 tons of methane into the atmosphere. This number makes up a significant percent of the greenhouse emissions that are being produced by animals in the wild especially for a single species of animals. We were able to save the beavers, but we now need to watch over their habits to help maintain the world.
