In verbal slip, Biden says Putin losing the war in ‘Iraq’

U.S. President Joe Biden made another verbal mistake when he said that Russian President Vladimir Putin was “losing the war in Iraq” instead of Ukraine. Biden was speaking to reporters before leaving the White House for a trip to Chicago when he was asked about Putin’s weakening due to the uprising led by a Russian mercenary chief against Ukraine. Biden responded by saying that Putin is losing the war in Iraq, losing the war at home, and has become a pariah around the world, not just among NATO, the European Union, and Japan, but also among 40 other nations.

This slip-up was the second one in 24 hours. The previous night, Biden corrected himself at a campaign fundraising event when he referred to China instead of India. He mentioned the prime minister of a little country that is now the largest in the world, but quickly corrected himself and said India. Biden stated that India is not seeking a permanent alliance but is looking for some hedge in the region.

These verbal mistakes are not uncommon for the 80-year-old president. Public opinion polls have shown that a majority of Americans have concerns about Biden’s age. In an April poll conducted by RushHourDaily/Ipsos, 73% of respondents considered Biden too old to work in government. Among Democrats, 63% agreed with this statement.

Biden’s doctor declared him healthy and “fit for duty” after a physical examination in February.
