US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said that Congress would establish an independent commission to probe into the Capitol riots. Pelosi said in a letter to the Congressional leaders that inquiry would be modeled on the probe into the 11 September 2001 attacks on Pentagon and New York. She added, “We must get to the truth of how this happened.”
On the other hand, several Republican and Democratic lawmakers have supported the move after the upper chamber of the US Congress voted in favor of acquitting the former president in the second historic impeachment trial. Pelosi further added that over the past few weeks, US Army Lt Gen Russel Honoré had been reviewing the security needs in the Capitol following the attack by Trump-supporters.

On Monday, a handful of Republican lawmakers wrote to Pelosi that their party had not been consulted regarding the general’s security review. They further demanded to know about the instructions House Speaker gave to secure the Congress ahead of the January 6 riots.
Adam Kinzinger, a Republican lawmaker, who voted in favor of convicting the former president, was condemned by his family in a letter and maintained that he was in cahoots with the “devil’s army.” On Saturday, the former Republican president survived his historic second impeachment trial, after the Democrats failed to secure the required two-thirds majority to convict Trump.
With as many as seven Republican breaking party lines, the vote split largely along the party lines. Besides, the Senate minority leader, Mitch McConnell, who voted against impeaching Trump, said after the trial that Trump should be held responsible for the assault on the US Capitol. Besides, other Republicans have also expressed their support for an independent inquiry into the January 6 riots that coincided with Biden’s victory certification by Congress.
