“It’s an end of an era” as Rishi Kapoor, 67, the favorite romantic hero of the Indian cinema in the 1980s, died on April 30, Thursday Morning in H.N Reliance Foundation hospital in Mumbai. He was part of the Bollywood’s first family dynasty inherited through his late father ‘Raj Kapoor’ and Grandfather ‘Prithvi Raj Kapoor,’ both veteran actors who formed the pillars of the early Indian Cinema Industry. He lost his 2-year battle to cancer after being diagnosed in 2018 and is survived by his wife ‘Neetu Singh,’ his two children and grandchildren. On April 29, Veteran Actor Irrfan Khan’s death had shocked the nation.

In his debut as the lead hero in the smash hit ‘Bobby’ in 1973, he won the film fare award for the best actor. The actor rocked the iconic looks of the 80s with flared Jeans and over-sized sunglasses and stole his audience’s hearts. He acted in more than 100 films, and many of the films were massive hits with melodious and soulful music. His charm and persona made him a heartthrob on-screen and off-screen both while he covered a journey, which was a roller coaster with both hit and flop.
He married his co-actor actress Neetu Singh, in 1980. While he entertained the audience through his romantic and character roles for 20 years, he was seen in powerful elderly roles starting around 2009 and has since entertained the audience with different shades of his excellent acting skills. His movies like ‘Bobby,’ ‘Chandni’ and the multi-starred movie with legendary Actor ‘Amitabh Bachhan‘named “Amar Akbar Anthony” were some popular hits of their time. Rishi Kapoor’s son ‘Ranbir Kapoor’, is also one of the Bollywood’s popular actor with some strong performances.

Rishi Kapoor, when diagnosed with leukemia in 2018, went to New York and undertook treatment for almost a year before he returned in September last year. As the news of his passing away came out on Thursday morning, the social media outpoured with messages of shock and disbelief as politicians and celebrities expressed their sadness and condolences. From PM Narendra Modi to many Chief Ministers of States, and the legend Amitabh Bachhan and other celebrities shared their deepest condolences while praising the jovial and talented man that ‘Rishi Kapoor’ was. His co-actors from the 1970s to the present posted messages of admiration for him and called his demise ‘the end of an era’.
With lockdown restrictions in the country due to coronavirus, the last rites of the actor were performed with only a close family in Mumbai. The grim news of his demise comes just a day after another Veteran actor Irrfan Khan passed away on Wednesday.
