Iran parades new ‘longest-range’ drone on Iraq war anniversary, state media report

Iran showcased its military equipment during a parade commemorating the anniversary of its war with Iraq in the 1980s. According to Iranian state media, the parade featured the “longest-range drone in the world,” as well as ballistic and hypersonic missiles. The drone, named Mohajer, Shahed, and Arash, was unveiled during the live broadcast of the event. Last month, Iran announced the development of an advanced drone called Mohajer-10, which has an extended flight range, longer duration, and larger payload compared to its predecessor, the Mohajer-6. The Mohajer-10 has an operational range of 2,000 km and can fly for up to 24 hours, with a payload capacity of 300 kg. The United States has accused Iran of supplying Mohajer-6 drones to Russia for its conflict in Ukraine, leading to expanded Iran-related sanctions. However, Iran denies these allegations.

During the parade, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi emphasized the role of Iranian forces in ensuring security in the region and the Persian Gulf. He stated that resistance, rather than submission, is what forces the enemy to retreat. A video released by Iranian media last month showcased the Mohajer-6 drone alongside other military equipment, with a message in Persian and Hebrew that read “prepare your shelters,” alluding to Iran’s arch-regional enemy, Israel.

In response to Iran’s drone and military aircraft development, the United States imposed fresh sanctions targeting individuals and entities in Iran, Russia, China, and Turkey. These sanctions aim to address Tehran’s proliferation of drones and military technology.

The Iran-Iraq war began on September 22, 1980, when Iraqi forces invaded Iran under the leadership of President Saddam Hussein. The conflict lasted for eight years, resulting in significant economic devastation and a death toll of at least half a million. It ended in a stalemate in August 1988.

In conclusion, Iran’s military parade showcased its advanced drone technology and other military equipment. The United States has imposed sanctions related to Iran’s drone development, while Iran denies allegations of providing drones to Russia for the conflict in Ukraine. The parade also served as a reminder of the Iran-Iraq war, which had a profound impact on both countries.
