Israel strikes ambulance near Gaza hospital, 15 reported killed

An Israeli air strike in northern Gaza resulted in the death of 15 people and the injury of 60 others. The strike targeted an ambulance that was being used to evacuate the wounded, according to the Hamas-controlled enclave’s health ministry.

Israel’s military claimed that the ambulance was being used by a Hamas terrorist cell and that Hamas fighters were killed in the strike. They also accused the group of using ambulances to transfer militants and weapons.

Hamas official Izzat El Reshiq denied the allegations and called them “baseless.” Gaza’s health ministry spokesperson, Ashraf al-Qidra, stated that the targeted ambulance was part of a convoy near al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.

According to Qidra, Israel targeted the convoy of ambulances in multiple locations, including the al-Shifa Hospital gate and Ansar Square, which is about a kilometer away.

Israel’s military did not provide any evidence to support their claim that the ambulance was linked to Hamas but stated that they would release additional information.

The military emphasized that the area is a battle zone and repeatedly called on civilians to evacuate for their own safety.

RushHourDaily was unable to independently verify the accounts from either side.

Videos shared on social media, which RushHourDaily has verified, showed people lying in blood next to an ambulance with flashing lights on a city street. Another video showed three ambulances with injured individuals nearby.

The Director-General of the World Health Organisation, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, expressed shock at the reports of attacks on ambulances and stressed the need to protect patients, health workers, and medical facilities.

Earlier, Gaza’s health ministry spokesperson stated that critically injured Palestinians who urgently needed treatment would be sent to Egypt from besieged Gaza City.

Israel has accused Hamas of using al-Shifa hospital for military purposes, including concealing command centers and tunnel entrances. They ordered all civilians to leave the north of Gaza and encircled the area.

Despite the order for civilians to leave, Israel’s military continued to bombard the south of the strip.

Both Hamas and al-Shifa hospital authorities have denied the allegations that the facility is used as a base by militant fighters.
